Got back from my holiday of sun and rum on sunday…. adjusting to being back on the shores of blighty… was back at work monday! killer! At least the sun has been shining!!
I went to the private view of my mates scumptiously heady exhibition at Stansted House today, and what a beautiful day its been for it too!! Hello sun!! If you get the chance pop along! It’ll be running for the summer!
‘Stansted Heads is an exhibition of Masks conceived by artist Mike Bartlett for the Maze in the grounds of Stansted Park.
Mike, who has been primarily known as a contemporary figurative painter, has made collaged Masks of the people of Stansted and of the portraits in the Paintings of Stansted House. The masks have been taken from a cast of his own head in an exercise in self portraiture and duality. The installation of Masks hanging in the Stansted House maze and the surrounding area creates a fascinating and for some uncanny Journey. ‘

Mike will also be showing Masks at the Transition Gallery, East London in a show called Duplicity 19th April to 12th May 2013’ with another friend and fellow artist Eloise Rose.
A mask of my face will also be in this exhibition….i look kinda freaky!
Here’s some images as promissed from last weeks antler sesh.

Above is the armature ready for fibreglass application. Prior to slight tidying up/ alteration of the designs form.

Completed in sections, i made a thick resin paste and worked it in over the armature then resin coated fibreglass ribbon was applied.

Next I started to apply the thick resin putty layer to sculpt giving texture /detail. I added pigment to this layer so when painted it will be abraded slightly, the colour should come through a little on the texture? Need to do some testing.

Close up of fibreglass application.

you can see the colour a little truer in the above images.
Next stages: Painting the deer head, alterations/arrangement/attachment of flowers, painting the antlers, final fixing of antlers to head and touch up of fixing. (then all being well?) work complete! Hurrah!
Happy Easter everyone!
It’s been a productive week, and the last couple of days I have finally been able to get my teeth stuck into doing the fibreglass work on ‘Doe Ray Me Stag’, which is coming along nicely.. (so far, touch wood). I will try get some pictures posted soon. I’d completed ‘Bloom’ earlier this week too, you can see the full pics on my website
